Class B with Passenger Endorsement Course

PASSENGER ENDORSEMENT:

To obtain a Passenger (P) endorsement on your Commercial Driver's License (CDL) after February 7, 2022, you must complete Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT), which includes both theory and behind-the-wheel training, covering topics like passenger safety, emergency procedures, and safe driving practices specific to transporting passengers. Here's a breakdown of the ELDT curriculum for a passenger endorsement:Theory Training: 

  • General Awareness:Regulations for handling passenger buses, specific requirements for transporting passengers, and hazardous materials transportation. 
  • Passenger Safety:Passenger safety awareness, passenger management, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance. 
  • Safe Driving Practices:Hours of service (HOS) requirements, safety belt safety, distracted driving, railroad-highway grade crossings, and weight stations. 
  • Emergency Procedures:Post-crash procedures, other emergency procedures, and security and crime awareness. 
  • Vehicle Operation:Vehicle orientation, pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections, fueling, and idling. 
  • Other Topics:Baggage and/or cargo management, roadside inspections, penalties, and fines. 

Behind-the-Wheel Training:

Important Considerations: 

  • FMCSA Requirements:The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) mandates that all entry-level drivers complete an ELDT program before taking the knowledge test for a CDL or endorsement. 
  • Training Providers:You must complete your ELDT training with an FMCSA-approved training provider. 
  • Theory and Behind-the-Wheel:ELDT consists of both theory training (which can be taken online or in-person) and behind-the-wheel training (which must be taken in-person). 
  • Training Provider Registry (TPR):Once you complete your ELDT training, the provider will submit your results and certification to the TPR. 
  • Virginia Requirements:In Virginia, applicants for a Class A or B CDL or the P or S endorsement must complete both theory and behind-the-wheel training prior to the CDL road skills exam. 
  • Exceptions:Individuals who were issued a CDL or an S, P, or H endorsement prior to February 7, 2022, are not required to complete ELDT training.

An ELDT Hazmat course curriculum prepares drivers for safely transporting hazardous materials, covering topics like shipping paper requirements, labeling, placarding, and emergency response procedures, all while adhering to FMCSA and DOT regulations.

How to complete Hazmat Course:

The HAZMAT ELDT assessment is $250.00, this must be completed before you can go to DMV to take your Hazmat Knowledge Test. Wait 48 hours before going to DMV to take knowledge test once complete with ELDT assessment.
